Who is not familiar with the term body shaming? Every person has been made to feel bad about his/her body at one time or another. Pictures of slender thin models on posters added to the misery of curvaceous women and for centuries, thin and tall women were considered the epitome of beauty while curvy and oversized women were treated with scorn. It is not to say that men have not been affected by body shaming but most of the ire was directed at women.
All this changed with the advent of body positive movement on social media. Girls started to understand the true meaning of beauty and were seen being proud of their curves and voluptuous figures.
Social media influencers have taken the body positive movement to a whole new level and are challengingage old beauty standards. Female influencers of today come in all shapes, sizes, and colors and are proud of their bodies. They are models, actresses, bloggers, fashion icons, and fitness enthusiasts.
Step by step, these influencers are leaving their mark on the world and particularly in fashion industry. With its rigid beauty standards, ordinary people always considered fashion a distant reality with no link to their lives. But now fashion has become accessible and even normal people are using fashion to express themselves.
The role of influencers in bringing out this change can’t be denied and their open support of positive body image has inspired many to embrace their flaws and live life according to their own terms.
